Rolf Bienentreu
è nato a Duisburg (Germania) nel 1951. Dopo avere ultimato il Liceo Classico ha studiato Filosofia e Scienze della Comunicazione.
Nel 1971 si iscrive alla Facoltà di Medicina a Liegi, in Belgio. Completa il corso di studi a Berlino nel 1980 e nel 1985 prende la specializzazione in pediatria. In quegli anni sviluppa anche i suoi interessi riguardo l’arte concettuale.
Nel 1979 tiene la sua prima performance dal titolo Gefallene Menschen (Corpi caduti) nella Mariannenplatz a Berlino.
Nel 1980 ripropone la medesima manifestazione allo Studio II di Berlino, e sempre nella capitale tedesca organizza l’installazione Gedächtnis des Divan (Memoria del divano).
L’anno seguente, a Wehdel, vicino ad Amburgo, sviluppa esempi di anamorfosi sulle pareti di un appartamento privato. Titolo, Besucher (Visitors).
Nel 1983, a Bremerhaven - Germania, organizza l’installazione Erotik des Ortes (L’erotismo dei luoghi).
L’anno seguente, sempre a Bremerhaven e a Rotterdam, installa un nuovo lavoro, Erotik der Gegenstände (L’erotismo degli oggetti). Questa ricerca continua nel 1985 a Bremerhaven, lavorando sul tema Erotik der Personen (L’erotismo nelle persone). Tutte queste prestazioni si riferiscono a un personaggio d’invenzione, Aprilheiland in der Prilküche.
Nel 1987 si trasferisce in Svizzera.
Nel 1990 viene invitato al Kunstverein di Bremerhaven, dove espone due autoritratti, Selbstbildnisse (Autoritratti).
Nel 1991 la professione medica lo fa trasferire in Romania per qualche tempo.
Nel 1992 è invitato dalla Società di Belle Arti di Iashi, Romania, a prendere parte a una mostra dal titolo Oggetti Testimoni. Successivamente la stessa mostra viene presentata a Bucarest.
Nel 1993, il video Alone Insieme, è esibito al pubblico per la prima volta in Engadina, Svizzera. Due anni dopo, presso la Galleria Riss, a Samedan in Engadina, realizza l’installazione Heimweh und Sehnsucht (Nostalgia e malinconia).
Nel 1998 la Galleria Riss lo invita a partecipare a una collettiva intitolata Plexiglass.
Nel 1999 è di nuovo invitato a Bremerhaven dal Kunstinitiative per esporre i suoi Tiefe Spiegel (Specchi profondi).
Nel 2004 Anna Caterina Bellati organizza la sua personale Specchi Profondi a Villa Sommi Picenardi, a Olgiate Molgora (LC) - Italia. La stessa mostra viene presentata nel 2005 a Bremerhaven alla Kunsthalle con il titolo Spiegelungen (Riflessi).
Nel 2007, a Cuxhaven vicino ad Amburgo, presenta il Piazza dello Amor Perfetto, proiettato nelle sale della Galleria Weidenstieg. Questa mostra personale sarà ospitata nel mese di settembre, ancora con Bellati come curatore, a Lugano - Svizzera, alla Galleria_Mya_Lurgo.
Nell’agosto 2008 partecipa a OPEN XI. Esposizione Internazionale di Sculture e Installazioni a Venezia Lido e nell’ottobre 2008 a Il vuoto e le forme. 1. Esposizione Internazionale di Sculture Installazioni e Dipinti a Chiavenna. A novembre è invitato alla collettiva dedicata al Tricolore al Museo Tecnico Navale di La Spezia durante la manifestazione Museo in vetrina.
Nella primavera successiva espone a Il vuoto e le forme. 2. Esposizione Internazionale di Sculture Installazioni e Dipinti a Chiavenna. Nel mese di giugno tiene la sua personale alla Galleria Uno a Soglio (CH). A settembre partecipa alla XII Biennale di Architettura di Venezia nella mostra collettiva Metropoli//Antimetropoli ideata e curata da Anna Caterina Bellati.
Sarà invitato nel 2012 alla terza Edizione Il vuoto e le forme. 3. Esposizione Internazionale di Sculture Installazioni e Dipinti, Cantico, dedicata a San Luigi Guanella, ancora a cura di Anna Caterina Bellati.

Rolf Bienentreu
was born in Duisburg (Germany) in 1951. After leaving school he studied Philosophy and Communication Science.
In 1971 he enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine in Liege, in Belgium. He completed his degree in Berlin in 1980 and became a paediatrician in 1985. During those years he also developed his personal interests in conceptual art.
In 1979 he held his first performance entitled Gefallene Menschen (Fallen bodies) in the Mariannenplatz in Berlin.
In 1980 he proposed to the public at Studio II, also in Berlin, the installation Gedachtnis des Divan (Memory of the couch).
The following year, at Wehdel, near Hamburg, he created examples of anamorphosis on the walls of a private apartment. Title: Besucher (Visitors). In 1983, in Bremerhaven – Germany, he organised the installation Erotik des Ortes (The eroticism of places).
The following year, again in Bremerhaven and in Rotterdam, he installed the work Erotik der Gegenstande (The eroticism of objects). He continued this research in 1985 in Bremerhaven, working on the theme Erotik der Personen (The eroticism of persons). All these performances refer to an invented character: Aprilheiland in der Prilküche.
In 1987 he moved to Switzerland.
In 1990 he was invited to the Kunstverein in Bremerhaven where he showed two self-portraits, Selbstbildnisse.
In 1991 his medical profession took him to Romania for several weeks.
In 1992 he was invited by the Society of Fine Arts in Iashi, Romania, to take part in a two-person exhibition entitled Witness objects. Later the same exhibition was presented in Bucharest.
In 1993 the video Alone Together was shown for the first time in Engadine, Switzerland. Two years later at the Riss Gallery, at Samedan in Engadine, he produced the installation Heimweh und Sehnsucht (Nostalgia and Melancholy).
In 1998 the Riss Gallery invited him to participate in a collective exhibition entitled Plexiglass.
In 1999 he was invited to Bremerhaven by the Kunstinitiative to show his Tiefe Spiegel (Deep Mirrors).
In 2004 Anna Caterina Bellati organised his personal exhibition Deep Mirrors at Villa Sommi Picenardi at Olgiate Molgora (LC) – Italy. The same exhibition was presented in 2005 in Bremerhaven at the Kunsthalle with the title Spiegelungen (Reflections).
In 2007, at Cuxhaven near Hamburg, he presented the project Piazza dello Amor Perfetto (Square of Perfect Love) at the Weidenstieg Gallery. This personal exhibition will be hosted in September, still with Bellati as curator, in Lugano (CH), in the rooms of the Mya_ Lurgo_Gallery.
In 2008 he participated at the 11th edition of the OPEN in Venice Lido. In October this is the First Edition of Il Vuoto e le Forme, International Exhibition of Sculptures, Installations and Paintings, in Chiavenna, and in November, he was invited to collective dedicated to Tricolore at Museo Navale in vetrina (The Naval Museum in showcase) of La Spezia.
The following spring, 2010, he exhibited at the Second Edition of Il Vuoto e le Forme, International Exhibition of Sculptures, Installations and Paintings, in Chiavenna. In June he had his solo exhibition at Gallery One in Soglio (CH). In September he participates at the XII Biennale of Architecture in Venice, Metropolis//Antimetropoli, conceived and curated by Anna Caterina Bellati.
Will be invited in 2012 to the Third Edition Il Vuoto e le Forme, International Exhibition of Sculptures, Installations and Paintings, in Chiavenna, dedicated to St. Luigi Guanella, curated by Anna Caterina Bellati.
